In Tudor and Stuart London, the chief reason for crossing the Thames to what is now Southwark was to visit the disreputable Bankside entertainment district around the south end of London Bridge. Four hundred years on, Londoners are heading to the area once more, thanks to a wealth of top attractions – led by the mighty Tate Modern – that pepper the traffic-free riverside path between Blackfriars Bridge and Tower Bridge. The area is conveniently linked to St Paul’s and the City by the fabulous Norman Foster-designed Millennium Bridge, London’s first pedestrian-only bridge. Nowadays, the abbey’s royal tombs are upstaged by Poets’ Corner, in the south transept, though the first occupant, Geoffrey Chaucer, was in fact buried here not because he was a poet, but because he lived nearby.

We prefer small group or private tours where you learn about the culture and history of the places you are visiting. It’s so much more fun than reading plaques and you are also able to ask questions. If it is your first trip to Italy, like many first-time visitors, you may choose to start your journey in Rome and visit Florence and Venice.
#12 Eat your way through one of the world’s great food capitals
Berlin has an incredible food scene, from street food to Michelin-star restaurants. Mitte is the street food center, Kreuzberg and Neukölln are known for their Turkish cuisine, and you’ll find great Chinese food in Charlottesburg. A food tour is a wonderful way to try a variety of what the city has to offer. The city of Haniá (Chania) is an excellent reason to come here, but the immediately adjacent coast, especially to the west of the city, is overdeveloped and not particularly exciting; if you want beaches head for the south coast or the far west.

Most travelers fall somewhere in the middle, however, and a reasonable daily budget per person for food, transport and activities is around €120 on top of flights and accommodation.

Grab a beer on the go – You can enjoy a beer just about anywhere in Berlin. #07 Museu del Modernisme Català
The ancient capital of the Sfakiá region, Hóra Sfakíon, lies 70km south of Haniá, reached via a spectacular twisting asphalted road over the mountains. It’s the main terminus for gorge walkers, with a regular boat service west along the coast to Ayía Rouméli and Loutro, which are accessible only by foot or boat. Frangokastello, with its castle fortress and sandy beaches, lies a few kilometres east of Hóra Sfakíon, along the coastal road. Other main routes south over the mountains from Haniá are those to the small town of Paleóhora (from the north-coast highway at Tavronítis) and to the laidback seaside village of Soúyia (via Alikianós on the Omalós road). Tokyo, a blend of the modern and the traditional, is the gateway to the famous Japanese culture and natural heritage.

With a warm Mediterranean climate, you can expect lots of sunshine and good temperatures, making it the perfect destination for outdoor activities and beach days. Seoul’s wide array of traditional performances and musicals are particularly popular with foreign travellers. Seoul has a few venues where you can hear more highbrow offerings such as jazz or classical music. On weekends there’s an interesting flea market at which local students sell handmade jewellery and other trinkets. Seoul does have other gay zones; the area around Jongno 3-ga station has long been home to underground gay bars, and recent years have seen the scene becoming more and more open. Unfortunately, few venues are foreigner-friendly, though the Starmoon café attracts all sorts – it’s in the ground floor of the tall Fraser Suites building.
Bicycle – Berlin is incredibly easy to cycle around, with well-marked bicycle lanes. Bike-sharing programs like Bolt, Nextbike, and LimeBike offer rentals for 1 EUR per 15 minutes or 15 EUR for the day. Get the lunch specials – There are lunchtime specials during the week in Oranienburgerstr. For example, you can get a starter and main course in very nice restaurants for around 6 EUR. There is a currywurst stand or fast-food stall on every corner, especially around markets and parks. You can get filling sausages and burgers for just a few euros, especially at busy places like Mauerpark, Markthalle Neun, and the Turkish Market.
For Travellers to Japan
From Ciampino airport there are buses roughly every 30min–1hr to Termini and the journey takes 30–45 min. Alternatively, the cheapest way is Atral’s Ciampino Airlink comprising a bus to Ciampino train station and a train into Termini. Fiumicino airport is linked to the centre of Rome by a direct train, the Leonardo Express, which takes 32min to get to Termini.
How much will accommodation cost?
